Horror Books
Used and new horror and Gothic books, from the novels that built the genre to recent bestsellers. Gothic fiction takes its name from Horace Walpole's The Castle of Otranto (1764), subtitled "A Gothic Story" in its 1765 second edition. The line runs through Bram Stoker's Dracula (1897), Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca (1938) and Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House (1959) to Stephen King and newer writers like Silvia Moreno-Garcia, whose Mexican Gothic won the 2021 Locus Award for Best Horror Novel.
